Soda Blasting- What Is It?
Soda blasting is the use of bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda, in conjunction with compressed air for the removal of fire damage, smoke damage, mold damage caused by water damage, or any other coating. The process is abrasive, but relatively gentle, and can be used on virtually any surface. As well as being surface friendly, soda blasting is environmentally friendly, it is an eco-friendly, nontoxic and nonhazardous alternative to other cleaning and stripping methods.
Additionally, soda blasting leaves a thin film of white powder dust on the surface being cleaned that helps to inhibit the formation of rust on metal for several months after treatment.
Fire Damage Restoration
In the fire restoration process, few applications demonstrate the power and benefits of soda blasting better than smoke, soot and char removal.
Baking soda not only removes the visual damage during the blasting process but the natural deodorizing properties of baking soda work to eliminate the “smell” associated with the damage. Fire, smoke, and ash are typically at the high end of the pH scale, where baking soda works quickly in absorbing and neutralizing odor.
Mold Removal With Soda Blasting
Traditional methods of removing mold from large areas and hard to reach places are time and labor intensive. Soda blasting can remove mold quickly and effectively from virtually any substrate, while providing a minimum impact on the surface, in a matter of hours. HEPA vacuuming and damp wiping with EPA approved chemicals is added following the soda blasting to complete the mold remediation process.
